Prepare Together
Preparation Guides
Preparation makes a big difference for many neurodivergent children. We offer simple, printable guides you can review with your child before each event so there are no surprises.
What Will Happen
A step-by-step walkthrough of a typical You're Invited event — arrival, activities, snack time, and goodbye. Great for visual learners and children who thrive on predictability.
Sounds & Sensory Info
We describe the sounds, textures, and sensory elements your child may encounter so you can prepare together. We always note what can be skipped or modified.
Who Will Be There
A brief intro to our volunteer team, including names and roles. Familiar faces reduce anxiety — feel free to share these with your child ahead of time.
Photo Preview
When available, we share photos of the venue and activity setup so your child can see the space before arriving. Familiarity builds confidence.
Social Stories
A Story Just for Your Child
Social stories are short, personalized narratives that help children understand what to expect in a new situation. We create a general social story for each event that you can read with your child in the days leading up to it.
Going to a You're Invited Event
I am going to a special event called You're Invited. It is a party made just for kids like me.
When I arrive, a friendly volunteer will say hello. I don't have to talk if I don't want to. I can just wave or smile.
There will be activities to do. I can try them or watch. Nobody will make me do anything I don't want to do.
If I feel overwhelmed, there is a quiet space where I can take a break. My grown-up can come with me.
When it's time to go, we will say goodbye. I did something brave today, and that is something to celebrate.

Common Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Are events free for families?
Yes! All You're Invited events are completely free for children and their families. We are a nonprofit organization funded by donations and community support.
Can siblings without disabilities attend?
Absolutely. We welcome the whole family. Siblings are a natural part of family life, and we want everyone to feel included. We just ask that all children are supervised by a caregiver.
What age range do your events serve?
Most of our events are designed for children ages 3–17. Some events are tailored to specific age groups — check the event listing for details.
Do I need a diagnosis to attend?
No diagnosis is required. If your child is neurodivergent, has sensory sensitivities, or simply thrives in a smaller, quieter environment, you are welcome here.
Will there be a quiet space at events?
Yes. Every You're Invited event includes a designated quiet area where children (and caregivers) can decompress, take a sensory break, or simply step away from the activity for a few minutes.
Can I stay with my child during the event?
Yes, always. We encourage caregivers to stay for the full event. You know your child best, and your presence is a comfort — not an inconvenience.
What if my child has a meltdown?
We get it. Meltdowns happen, and our volunteers are trained to respond with calm, compassion, and zero judgment. The quiet space is always available, and you will never be asked to leave.
How do I find out about new events?
Follow us on Facebook and Instagram, or check our Events page regularly. We announce new events as soon as registration opens.
Policies
Cancellation & Attendance
Canceling Your RSVP
Life happens — we completely understand. If you need to cancel, please let us know as soon as possible so we can open your spot to another family on the waitlist. You can reach us through the Contact page.
Event Cancellations by Us
In the rare event that we need to cancel or postpone, we will notify all registered families by email and post an update on our social media pages as quickly as possible.
Weather Policy
For outdoor events, we monitor weather closely. If conditions are unsafe, we will cancel or move the event indoors when possible. Families will be notified at least 2 hours before the event start time.
Late Arrivals
We know that getting out the door with a neurodivergent child can take longer than expected. Please come even if you're late — we will welcome you warmly whenever you arrive.
Photography & Privacy
We sometimes take photos at events for use on our website and social media. If you prefer your child not be photographed, simply let a volunteer know at check-in and we will honor that request without question.
Still Have Questions?
We're here for you. Reach out any time — before, during, or after an event. No question is too small.
